I guess I’ll be starting my new blog with a preview of the TT Hongli 1/100 scale RX-78-2 Fighter plastic model kit. As anyone would have probably guessed by now the kit is a knock-off/direct copy of the 1/100 MG (Master Grade) RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0 from the Mobile Suit Gundam UC0079 series. Everything from the boxart right down to the instruction booklet is virtually identical.

As the kit itself is clone of its Bandai counterpart i will not repeat what has been already been said about it. Judging from parts comparison between the TT Hongli and the Bandai version, i think there is a 80-90% match by appearance. Of course overall quality is inferior but the TT Hongli goes for about 1/2 the retail cost of its Bandai counterpart. For comparison purposes take at the original Bandai version at Dalong’s website.
I have plans to this kit eventually. Stay tuned for a review once i am done assembling it!

Have you bought the kit?
I’ve bought HG 1/100 GN-001 Exia and that’s fine by me.
Nope, I don’t have Bandai, so I don’t know how to compare, but Hongli’s HG 1/144 is really horrible… well, I’ve just bought my second 1/144, hope this is better.
Yes..i have both the original Bandai kit and the TT Hongli knock-off versions of the MG RX-78-2 ver.2.0. From what i’ve seen so far, most of the newer 1/100 scales are pretty good (1/100 Exia, 1/100 Sinanju, Unicorn). Compared side by side, plastic is more pebbly and panel line detailing is weaker. Overall, about 80% of the Bandai version in terms of likeness. That’s pretty good for something going for less than 1/2 the cost the Bandais are retailing for.
As for the 1/144s, i’ve been told the newer 00 lines are better than the Seeds so go for those if you will. If you discard the stickers and paint them they’ll probably turn up looking just fine.
Hi there I’m Dario from Rome, Italy. I’d like to know where you buy this kit and if i’ll be able to buy them online from some onlineshops! thank you very much, Dario
Hi Dario,
TT Hongli stuff can be found at either Taobao or Walter Hobby Stores. Or you can always search Ebay, i’ve seen them pop up from time to time. Be advised though the RX-78-2 is one of TT’s worst kits out there. There’s part shrinkage in areas, poor fit and brittle plastic. Go for the Zakus, they seemed better than the 78-2.
